So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27 NIV)
It finally happened this week, a woman fell to earth. Not that a woman fell out of a space shuttle or from the 20th floor of a tower block, this was television history. The first episode of the long awaited sci fi series, where the 13th incarnation of Doctor Who was a woman, aired. Actress Jodie Whittaker showed she could wield a sonic screwdriver and fight aliens as well as any of her male predecessors. Yes, it is a big deal that a woman is finally playing the iconic Doctor, but the fact that social media and national newspapers have made it such a deal indicates that we are still a way off gender equality.
The Christian worldview is that humankind, both male and female, was created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27)
and in living as a Christian there is to be no male/female rivalry (Galatians 3:28)
.
God loves all of humanity and treats men and women as equal. Just think what a difference it would make if our society did the same.
Prayer
Father, thank you for creating diversity in the human race. Help to see that all humanity is created in your image and should be treated as equals.
Amen.
Have a good week celebrating the array of gifts and talents that both men and women have and can contribute to our shared life.
