Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:105 NIV)
I recently got a TomTom; a portable Global Positioning System (GPS) for car navigation.
Incredibly this Satellite Navigation (Sat Nav) system works out for me the most direct route from A to B and provides me with real-time information about which routes to take.
It alerts me to road closures, traffic, other unforeseen conditions, and most importantly for me, when a speed camera is approaching.
In many ways it has changed my driving forever. I dont have to fumble with maps or do the hardest thing for a man ever to do: stop and ask directions.
Im told automatically, turn here, go there; the directions come exactly when I need them.
Sometimes I know precisely the route on which the Sat Nav is taking me but other times I dont know where Im headed or why a particular route was chosen.
Yet invariably it has got me to my destination.
As I was thinking about my new toy it occurred to me that I already had a Sat Nav system sitting on my book case: the Bible.
Gods Word shows the route Im to take, gives me real-time information about the condition of the world around me and alerts me to dangers ahead.
Studying the Scriptures gives me the direction for my life exactly when I need it.
Sometimes I know the direction God is taking me through His Word but on many occasions Ive wondered, why am I going this way? and why has this route been chosen for me?
Yet I know that with my Sat Nav for life God is taking me in the right direction to reach the destination He has mapped out for me. He knows the right way to take me in order to bring me to spiritual maturity.
There are always going to be occasions in life when we cant see how we are going to get through the tough times we are experiencing. Our lives may seem confusing and challenging, as we experience the dark night of the soul.
Yet, if we place our trust in God and act in faith on His spiritual Sav Nav He will direct our path.
If we follow Gods directions, even in times of darkness, we will always get to where we need to go.
The Bible will always be the best guidance available as it is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16)
Lets allow the Scripture to illuminate our path so that we walk in the way God wants us to go.
Prayer
Father, thank you that you have not left us alone to map out our direction in life. Help us to value the guidance you have given so that we are doers and not just hearers of your Word.
Amen.
Have a good week following your Sat Nav for life.
