Have you ever looked forward to something with great anticipation only to find that when it arrives it’s a bit disappointing? I’ve been watching Line of Duty, a TV programme about rooting out corruption in the police force, since series one. Last Sunday was the final episode of series six in which a corrupt officer, the good guys had been looking for from the beginning, was caught. This revelation sent social media into a frenzy with comments like, ‘Is that it?’, and ‘We need a seventh series to resolve this.’
Sometimes the things we have put our hopes in can leave us frustrated when they come about; we work hard to get a degree, but then can’t get a job; or we strive for promotion, but the position brings extra stress and tension.
Christianity promises a wonderful future that won’t leave us disappointed or frustrated when it arrives. The final book of the Bible tells of a world where every tear will be wiped from our eyes because there will be no more death, mourning, crying or pain. (Revelation 21:4)
That’s the world I want to be a part of.
Is such an ending possible or is it just ‘pie in the sky’? Why not check out Christianity’s claims and see for yourself where they lead.
Have a good week contemplating the world’s good ending.
